The basic “transaction”/”litigation” divide in the practice of law runs through the center of W&S’s organizational structure. James J. Scavo leads the transactional team and Michael Weinstock, the litigation team. The two teams work both apart and together to represent individuals and businesses, in any industry or market, in diverse types of matters toward accomplishing their respective transactional and/or litigation objectives. While the firm’s transactional and litigation teams are subdivided into a subset of practice areas to reflect the diversity, versatility, knowledge and experience of the firm, our attorneys often practice law in more than one area of the law, thereby bringing a breadth of knowledge and skills to the table or in court, as the case may be.

Transactional

The essence of our transactional practice is embodied in the roots of the word “transact” itself which is a combination of the Latin “trans” meaning “through” and “agere” meaning “to act”. Together they mean, “To accomplish, carry through an act”. Through counseling, guidance, knowledge and experience our transaction team provides direction to our clients by planning, structuring and executing transactions in order to accomplish their personal and business objectives.

Litigation

The essence of our litigation practice is embodied in the roots of the word “litigate” itself, a combination of the Latin “litem” meaning “lawsuit, dispute, quarrel, strife” and “agere” meaning “to drive, conduct”.  Together they mean, “The act of conducting a lawsuit.”  Our litigation team drives the lawsuit at any stage of the dispute.and are well versed in handling litigation through trial and appeals if needed. Our litigation attorneys often litigate in more than one practice area, thereby bringing a breadth of knowledge and skills to the court.

As in the terms “transaction” and “litigation, the heart of W&S lies in the Latin word “agere”, meaning “to act, to drive, to conduct”. Whatever the transactional matter or litigation, we take dynamic, strategic and decisive action on behalf our clients.
